Years ago my mother in law gave us an antique vanity. I was so excited when she gave it to us however I really never got to use it. Our bedroom is so small we just never had the room so it sat in our basement waiting for me to figure out what to do with it. Fast forward to the present.. I have spent several weeks searching thrift stores and craigslist for nightstands. Finally like an answer from above I came across a post on Miss Mustard Seed about furniture painting and refinishing and wouldn't you know it there was a picture of two end tables made from a vanity. What a great idea !! I was so excited I couldn’t wait to get started. So this past weekend with the help of Mr. MVB we were able to turn the vanity into nightstands for our bedroom. I am so excited to show you how they turned out.
This is what the vanity looked like before
I tried to remove the middle piece myself but this thing wouldn’t budge ~ Mr. MVB to the rescue, he was able to remove the middle piece in no time
I had to add some wood putty to the sides where the demo took place and once the putty dried I used a palm sander and made sure everything blended.
Now for the grey primer ~ for some reason this is always my favorite part when I have to paint something, I don’t know why but I love the blue grey color of primer
Next step was to apply two coats of Country white paint ~ once everything dried I took sand paper to the edges to get the worn chippy look.. and this is what they look like now
Here is a close up of the front ~ I love all the small details
So what do you think .. pretty cute?
