Last week I joined the Linky party over at Stories from A to Z. I took the opportunity to check everyone’s mantels out and there were so many good ideas but one in particular caught my eye. It was the mantel that Lisa @ Serendipity Chic Design posted. She transformed her fireplace into a masterpiece using some paint and sandpaper. I had commented to Lisa telling her how much I loved her fireplace. I also told her how I would love to do the same but that I am just too chicken to take that step. Lisa was so kind and encouraging that I decided to go for it!
~ Here is what our mantel looked like before ~
~I cleared everything off and took one last deep breath before I started rolling on the paint. I followed Lisa’s directions she posted on her site … one coat flat white paint, let dry, sand with 50 grit sandpaper using a palm sander ~
~ I have to say I was pretty thrilled with it. It made the room look bigger and brighter. I also took the sander to the actual mantel. It was a darker wood but sanding some of the stain off lightened it up and made the wood grain stand out ~
~ This is what it looks like after I added some accessories ~
Thanks Lisa for the encouragement!!
